Swad

Date of Visit: March 26th, 2015
President: JS/EE
The Show: 11
The Score: 7.50

The location for this meeting was SWAD Indian Restaurant located in downtown North College Hill.  Swad, whose name means tasty, is a modern Indian fair restaurant providing over 130 Indian selections. (For those of you who do not know where North College Hill is, from the comments of many of the members it is evidently only a few miles from the actual country of India.)

After the disappointment of no shows or late notices, the members proceeded to peruse the menu and order a round of beers. There was another bit of disappointment that the establishment was out of Taj Mahal, but this soon dissipated as Flying Horse was a more than able replacement. Great selection and quantity of beers was also observed.

The President was severely disappointed that the Poppadums' were not complimentary and responded to this news with a look of disgust. His many attempts to get the establishment to reconsider this policy were rebuffed. The President decided to not let the establishments' frugality ruin tradition and graciously provided Poppadums' to the membership. The poppadums' were excellent with a measure of spice and heat detected.

Starters were bypassed and the membership went straight to ordering entrees, with a large number ordered Naan with their meal. The entrees came out quickly and everyone received their own heaping bowl of rice. Goat appeared to be the meat of the evening with 5 members making it their choice. While it was agreed that the Goat was tasty, the large number of bones in the meal was frowned upon. The most talked about meal of the evening belonged to Josh Falter, who ordered the Sampler Platter. The Platter came on an extremely oversized 5-6 compartment grade school cafeteria tray with enough food to easily serve more than one. While Josh's dinnerware drew that admiration of everyone present, the rest of the meals were served, astonishingly enough, on plastic plates. The heat, 6 being highest was very good, although a few members still decided to enhance their meals with extra chili powder. Special props to Rob, who ordered a 2, received a 4, and powered through the meal like a seasoned CASACC professional.

The excitement of the evening came mid-meal when one of the waiters was clocked running through the dining room at about 15 miles per hour (24 km's, Leom) with the most steamingly hot plate any of us had ever seen. The waiter gained even more respect when he responded to a query of, "Wow, was that hot?", with, "No, it was just that cold!"

A motion was made to add a traditional steak dinner during the second week of July to celebrate Independence day. The motion was seconded and agreed to by all, although L*** did express some confusion about what exactly was the purpose of the holiday.

Overall the meal was excellent, the atmosphere was clean, inviting, and reflected that of Indian culture. Tapestries on most every wall with the sound of Indian music in the background. Milli Vanilli Indian music???? Gotta love it. Service was very good, although the waitress did appear somewhat confused at times. More than likely she was not used to having a group of our stature in the establishment and became flustered.

An excellent showing of members led to a very enjoyable evening among friends.
