The Report

The CASACC traveled south of the border to Northern Kentucky for the August monthly curry contest. The traditional pre-curry beverages were served outdoors at the Pee Wee’s bar. Contrary to some preconceptions, this was NOT also known as the “Cresent Springs Gun & Knife Club”. Outdoor table seating overlooking the volleyball courts made for a pleasant, if a bit warm, venu. They were able to handle our table of 9 utilizing most of the wait staff.
The main event traveled a couple blocks south to the Guru Indian restaurant. They were quite busy considering the Covid scourge that ravages the land and there was only one server. Our table of 10 was set-up already, but they didn’t seem to staff for it. This tended to be a drag on most of the scoring. Our server was friendly enough and was able to provide the complimentary poppadoms with some prodding. Several orders were quickly produced for the table and drink orders were taken. Here the order of things took a turn for the worse. Apparently the bottle opener was slow and the drinks didn’t arrive before the food. To be fair, the food arrived quickly but I’m pretty sure a beer should have beat out the vindaloo. Spice levels seemed appropriate. The only complaint was by one member that ordered a low spice level and then complained of too little spice. Some discussions of smaller nan were also hear round the table.
The dining area was average and the restrooms needed attention. One member remarked that he thought that the urinals were glued on with caulk… The Internal Indian grocery was dark and didn’t seem to be open, but I suspect they would have sold you something if you could have found someone to ring it up.
The traditional toast happened after the meal and before the business meeting as the food beat out the drinks. There was a mandatory yellow card issued to member Butler who had accepted the invitation to attend and cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice. An additional yellow card was issued to member Joni Levi for discussions and disruption during the business meeting. Most of the scores came in the average range with one member rating it a 10. (Suspicions were raised as to this score being influenced by the proximity of the venue to this member’s home.) General consensus was that food was above average but the service and bathroom condition brought the scores down. There was a sign saying to use either restroom – one has to wonder if the woman’s restroom was any better.
There was another peaceful transition of power as President Bosma graciously handed the Mantle of Patten off to the incoming president, Paul Glotzbecker.
