Grace of India 2019

Date of Visit: July 25,, 2019
President: MB
The Show: 7
The Score: 8.81

July’s meeting led our distinguished band of curry connoisseurs to the arguably beautiful west side section of Cincinnati. It is here that a night of bountiful beverages and fantastic food fare began. Although our debonair president was held up with work and puppy duties (including puppy doodies), Leom, Eric, Paul, Josh, and Kenny Noyes arrived early to represent CASACC for pre-drinks at Knotty Pine bar. Yes, you read that correctly. We were blessed with a surprise appearance of long-lost member Noyes who all thought had disappeared in a bottomless sea of duplicate IP addresses and looping traceroutes, never to return to civilization. Kenny’s presence was short-lived however when he
saw his shadow and had to leave before the main event thus causing another month and a half of winter. I will not mention the questionable taco bar at the establishment…
…or will I? …yes…I just did.

Our gaggle of humans then migrated to the venue of the night, Grace of India, which was conveniently placed just across a not-so-convenient road and realized that we had attended this restaurant earlier this year (see meeting minutes below). We were met by member Wurtz upon arrival and member Menninger showed shortly thereafter. The meeting commenced following appetizers provided by the president and a subsequent customary toast to Alan Patten. It should be noted that several members opted not to purchase beverages and toasted with water to their shame and Alan’s disappointment.

The Meeting Minutes
- The CASACC web domain was up for renewal and honorary member of the highest degree, Brad Taggart, not only paid the dues but moved our website to the less expensive Google domains. After many nefarious thoughts on repayment it was decided to just collect the money from the members at the table. BRAD: I owe
you $15.

- Eric was negligent in his duty to provide a report from when he was President earlier this year causing the group to re-attend the same venue twice in one year for the first time in CASACC history. Oh, the shame, disgrace, embarrassment, dishonor, indignity and other words that don’t come up when I search for synonyms!

- A yellow card was leniently forced upon Eric for his negligence, but this was upgraded to a red card when he tried to blame the faultless president for not noticing. He was then immediately expelled from the building to wander the streets aimlessly for 5-minutes.

The Restaurant
- Initial impressions of the restaurant were just average although it was very warm at first. The staff turned on the fans without being asked before it became uncomfortable though, so the only score that this affected was from member JJ Wurtz who had the fan pointing directly at him.

- There was a noticeable lack of music or ambient sounds which was disappointing when we remembered the entertaining Indian music videos that played during the first visit. I assume this was done for the benefit of our meeting however.

- The bathroom was adequate for this type of restaurant but there was a fake cell phone that was a little unnerving upon first glance.

The Staff
- The staff was extremely friendly and personable.
- Orders were taken and meals were provided in a timely manner.
- The waitresses were knowledgeable of their menu.
- Excellent service, not only for CASACC but for others at different tables as well. I could not tell that anyone was playing favorites.
- Despite the separate bills there was only one mistake with a beer being placed on another members ticket. This was quickly remediated.

The Food (the part that REALLY matters)
- TLDR: The food was freakin’ delicious!
- Prices were reasonable
- Everyone received their own bowl of rice, so we did not have to share.
- The naan was large which is a good thing
- The restaurant was out of King Fisher beer which seems to be a running theme at most of the Indian restaurants in Cincinnati.
- The meat was very tender and juicy, including the Chicken Tikka which is cooked in a dry oven.
- Heat levels were slightly milder than expected with member Eslinger ordering their highest level (6) without dropping a single bead of sweat and being able to talk normally during consumption.
- It must be noted that CASACC received complimentary desserts (most opted for the Gulab Jamon) which had no effect on the score but does show the level of appreciation the restaurant has for their distinguished patrons.

Bottom line: Although this report points out many things that could be taken as negatives, they are very minor or even negligible and the consensus was that this was one of the best places we have attended this year.

The presidential baton was passed to President Josh Lukas for August’s meeting.
