For the May meeting of CASACC, members journeyed down to the hipster region of Cincinnati that is the surrounding area of the University of Cincinnati. The evening began at The Brass Tap where the seemingly endless beer and beer colour options were the topic of discussion. Remarks on the lack of attendance persisted through the happy hour and were promptly followed by satirical reasons for said absences. i.e. significant others being mistaken for wives.
After polishing off the last of the libations, CASACC members travelled around the corner to join the remaining members at Elephant Walk Cincinnati. The wait staff set the tone for the evening by having the table properly set before our arrival, being extremely prompt and polite during our stay, and maintaining a very clean establishment as noted by all the members present. After ordering a round of drinks it was soon discovered that the restaurant did not carry poppadoms. This was quickly remedied by the president who was able to get complimentary naans with chutney brought to the table to the overwhelming delight of the members present. This put a hesitation to tradition, but the evening continued as planned with a toast to our founder, Alan Patten.
Round robin orders were taken with members ordering various chicken or lamb dishes. After placing our orders, the topic of who braved the highest heat was revealed to be Member Wurtz who ordered the highest heat of 5 out of 6. There were multiple yellow cards to be handed out given a handful of late cancellations and no responses. These were given to Member Holley, Taggart, Tozier, Falter, Kauffman, and provisional member Raman Arora for accepting and not showing. This is Raman’s second consecutive absence as a provisional member so the choice was made to leave him off the CASACC invite until potentially receiving another invite by a future president.
Shortly after issuing cards, a discussion and vote was had for Member Murray for having his fourth consecutive absence to the monthly CASACC meeting. Out of the six members present, five to one voted in favour of extending Nate’s privileged membership in CASACC to the following month of June, with Member Amos making it a point to be the one member that voted against keeping Nate in the club. This will extend Nate’s membership to the June CASACC meeting in hopes of redemption. After the vote, everyone’s orders arrived to the table.
The overall presentation and flavour left the table momentarily silent out of appreciation for what the chef had prepared for each individual. Member Williams was particularly silent through most the meal as his tandoori chicken swiftly beat out Member Wurtz’ 5 out of 6 even though he only ordered a 2. This would not curb the experience as each member commented on how the taste and torso-sized naan was very well prepared and full of flavour. Talk of the portions left some members put off as they felt as if they should get more food for the cost; this was reflected in the scores above. Once everyone was happily finished with their portions, the matter of voting on provisional member, Sven Menninger, as an official CASACC member. This was followed with unanimous votes in favour of accepting Sven as a member where a rousing “Welcome!” was given by members at the table.
Before departing, discussion of the “Annual Josh Falter 4th of July meeting” was brought up and discussed with the member’s present with more details to come in the following weeks. When asked for a volunteer for president, Member Williams stepped up and agreed to take on the responsibility of the Presidency for the June CASACC meeting. Bills were paid, the group photo was taken, and the seven members went to their respective homes for the evening.
