Azad India Restaurant

Cheltenham member H***** moved to Cincinnati with the number 1 goal of setting up the Cincinnati arm of CASACC, and the first meeting hit the ground running with a well turned out affair. The location was Azad India in Blue Ash, which can be found on a retail estate in Blue Ash.

After the disappointment of no shows Arshad and P*** (who were subsequently yellow-carded in their absence) the members deliberated the rules of the club and proceed to peruse the menu and order a round of beers. The beers were deemed well priced and of good quality, although they did run out of kingfisher after delivering just 2 bottles to the table.

The menu had a great selection of mains - sea food, goat and chicken in the form of vindaloo's, tikka masala's and jalfrezies. Each curry was ordered on a scale of 1-6, with 1 being the lowest, 6 being the hottest. This provided an excellent way to gauge the 'manhood' of each member, with most going for a 4 and Mark and Brad opting for a 2.

Whilst papadums weren't on the menu, President H***** asked for a complimentary round and was surprised to find they were swiftly brought to the table. The surprise was not only the complimentary poppadum's, but the fact they were brought swiftly, as our experiencing throughout the night was quite painful in places as we were left waiting for service. There were 9 customers in the restaurant, 8 of them were CASACC.

Not everyone ordered a starter, but those that did were happy with what they received. They ranged from a plate of chicken to Indian cheese. The mains followed and most were accompanied by naans with the cheese naan being the most popular. A deep fried cheese naan received some very complimentary feedback. Overall the mains were very well received. The general consensus was that the food was tasty, with a good kick, although it was thought the 4's could have been a little hotter, and there could have been a little more quantity. The 'communal' rice was also seen as a little bland by some.

Testing rule 41, member Murray ordered not just one dessert but two. This, it was argued, was due to the small quantities of the mains.

Overall the meal was good. The little atmosphere in the restaurant could be greatly improved, as could the speed of the service. This was a successful first curry club visit, and a healthy final 5.475 score.
