Date of Visit: March 30, 2017
President: R. Kaplan
The Show: 10
The Score: 8.27
(Additional Yellow cards)
Eric Mcconaha – no RSVP Justin Henderson – late RSVP
Summary – solid all around with a few concerns on blandness in taste
The evening started off with pre-dinner drinks at the neighborhood watering hole, Arlin’s Bar & Restaurant – one of the only bars on Ludlow Ave in Clifton. The pre-dinner drinks showing was fair. Member Holley and Montgomery were the first to arrive. Bar service was prompt, yet the bartender failed to notify Member Holley and Montgomery of the ten-dollar minimum on credit card purchases. Member Lukas was last to arrive, approximately ten till six. Never the less, he managed to finish his beer and make over to the restaurant with the rest of the group, on time.
After a short walk, we arrived at Ambar India where members had already been seated. This wasn’t ideal because the restaurant did not know the correct number of people in the party. Luckily, we just able to fit with the table they had provided. Complementary poppadums and chutney were requested and after manager approval, they were provided. The poppadums were fresh and no complaints were voiced.
Some lite chit chat and drinks were poured, the President toasted our glorious founder, Alan Patte and moved onto official business. Beyond the discussion of yellow cards for lack of RVPs, there was no business mention. No new members joining or existing members requiring voting.
Dinner proceeded nicely with a zig-zag approach in order taking by the server. One member voiced concern as to how our food could be delivered correctly. Yet to our amazement, food arrived promptly and everyone received the correct dishes. As dinner wrapped up, doggy bags were provided and split bills were dispersed as requested by the President. As the scores and reviews were collected, the general consensus was the food was good and very accurate on the spice scale. Two members reported their food tasting bland and the President agreed. The lack of music and Indian decor did hurt some member’s scores. Member Lukas did have an odd issue in the restroom, where the paper towel dispenser was in his way. No other members were able to concur. There was also mentions on the high quantity of Ambar gift card advertisements around the restaurant. No gift cards were purchased.
The final score for Ambar India was 8.27, 1.17 higher than its previous score of 7.10 in 2015!
Matt Butler will be our new President
