Kanak India

Date of Visit: October 27th, 2016
President: T. Tozier
The Show: 15
The Score: 7.622

The October meeting of the Cincinnati and Surrounding Areas Curry Club started with drinks at The Corner Pub where many of the Clubs foremost members gathered for a sophisticated repartee, replete with topical developments and astute consideration.  Many fun and interesting things happened here, I can assure you.

After refreshments at the Corner Pub the group made its way to the venue, Kanak India.  Upon entering the brightly lit open concept dining area many members began to note the various feature of the ambience.  Music or lack thereof, wall décor and so on.  The overall impression was that the ambience could use some refinement but did not offend the sensitive social palate of our sophisticated sensibilities.

The table for our large group was prepared in advance so that there was no waiting for staff to figure out our dining arrangements.  A task that at other venues could seem to be beyond the limited abilities of an inexperienced staff.  Our table was stretched down the middle of the room taking pride of place.  President Tozier sat in the middle of the table and orchestrated the evening with flair, confidence and natural ability.

It quickly became apparent that the wait staff was of a higher calibre then the average.  Drinks were quickly arranged and accurately delivered.  After President Tozier informed the staff of our billing requirements we were never to be disappointed by inaccurate, delayed or uninformative bills.

The president began the meeting in earnest with the traditional toast to Allan Patton.  Business took over with a couple points for discussion:

·         Status of the website:  Senior member Brad Taggart took on the mantle of web admin with Journeyman member Jacob Dixon acting in a supervisory role.  It should be noted that Brad took on the task with admirable tenacity and we now have a much needed and up to date website.

·         RJ Poddar:  RJ is a senior member of CASACC who has contributed greatly.  Unfortunately, he has been unable to attend frequently and recently, rarely.  RJ was quite contrite in in his petition to the President and other members of CASACC before the meeting.  Ultimately, RJ’s appeals fell on the deaf, cold and unfeeling ears of CASACC members who have been hurt too many times.  RJ’s membership was revoked.   There is a caveat,  RJ may be welcomed back at some future point when the current president feels that he is sincere in his ability to return to productive member status.

·         November event:  moved to the 17th to accommodate Thanksgiving.

Dinner orders were taken, enlightening conversation ensued and curry began to be delivered.  The President ordered a Chicken Saag that astounded him.  The President, having had the “revelation of saag” decided to set forth on a quest to sample various saag dishes in various restaurants.

Other members of CASACC were not similarly impressed by their meals but a consensus was that the food was good and even above average but not reaching the heights of some of the highest scoring venues in CASACC history.  A common complaint was that the heat of the meals did not come close to reaching the potential of their patron’s tolerance and expectations.  Other members noted that the chicken was not marinated, reducing its juiciness and taste appeal.  On the other hand, the Naan was considered a success.

As has become tradition, scores were to wait on checks to be delivered.  The President considered the service and bill accuracy a Yuuuge improvement on the clear majority of venues that CASACC has visited.  Scores were taken and a respectable average of 7.6 awarded.

Senior member, Matt Butler affably accepted the post of president for the November event.
